Rev. Dr. J. Howard Streeter III, is the Senior Pastor of Prince of Peace Baptist Church in Akron where he’s served for 2 and a half years, and has led the church in growth, facilities enhancements, and numerous community activities. Before his current assignment, Pastor Jack labored at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church where he served as Youth & Young Adult Pastor for more than 15 years under Senior Pastor Jeffrey A. Dennis.
Dr. J. Streeter graduated from John R. Buchtel High School in Akron, OH, The University of Akron, Ashland Theological Seminary, Kent State University, and earned his Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University.
Jack is certified by the State of Ohio’s Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Counselor Streeter is grateful for the privilege of serving clients since 2007 at the Minority Behavioral Health Group (MBHG) of Akron as a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Pastor Jack has taught graduate courses and conducted counseling-related research in Atlanta, GA, Kent, OH, and Ashland, OH. He has also presented at professional workshops in Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico, and California. Jack has an article published in the American Counseling Association’s Counseling Today Magazine, The Reporter Newspaper, and Kent State University’s Chi Sigma Iota international honor society newsletter. He also holds U.S. copyrights for songs & poetry and a U.S. trademark for a Christian clothing line owned by him and his wife.
Jack is a devoted husband and loving father to the family God gave him: wife, Alissa; daughters, Julie & Stephie; and their only begotten son, Isaiah, also known as Ike in honor of Jack’s Uncle. Jack’s journey has not been easy, but God’s only begotten Son has made a way out of no way for him to do that which Jesus has called him to do.
Dr. Streeter serves on:
•The Social Action Planning Committee for the Interfaith Justice Alliance in Akron, OH. The organization consists of five congregations: New Hope Baptist Church, Faith Lutheran Church, St. Hilary's Catholic Church, Temple Israel Synagogue, and Prince of Peace Baptist Church.
•A partnership with Rabbi Josh Brown of Temple Israel Synagogue on a series exploring the common histories, struggles, and Messianic hopes of the Jews and the Black Church.
•Pastor Jack is also a pastoral member of the Faculty/Staff biweekly Prayer Team at Buchtel High School where he leads an after-school Bible Study.
•The Spiritual Care Committee and Advisory Group for Grace House Akron to support chaplain services in hospice care for homeless terminally ill patients.
•The Board of Directors for the Summit County Historical Society.
•The Greater Akron Fellowship of Clergy in Akron and Barberton, Ohio.
Fun Fact: “JStreet”, as was his original on-air moniker, and received the DJ of the Year Award in the mid-1990’s under the auspices of General Manager Tom Beck at “88.1 FM-WZIP The Soul of Akron” with an audience of over one million listeners that broadcasted from the University of Akron and reached into Canada during his weekday lunch-time program.
